Salesforce forms strategic partnership with HP to launch new cloud collaboration product for large businesses

On the heels of its Q3 FY2014 earnings, Salesforce announced it has formed a strategic partnership with computer equipment manufacturer HP. Through this agreement, the two companies will create what’s being called the Salesforce Superpod, which will be a dedicated instance of Salesforce’s “multi-tenant cloud running on HP’s Converged infrastructure.”

Salesforce’s Superpod product appears to be a move to improve the quality of its CRM product through the use of HP’s enterprise servers. During its quarterly earnings call, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff spoke about the arrangement, saying that it will give its largest customers the choice of the speed and performance of Salesforce while running on HP’s hardware.

In a statement, HP’s President and CEO Meg Whitman said:

Trends like cloud, mobility and big data are creating a ‘New Style of IT’ and transforming what enterprise customers expect and need from technology. I’m excited to have HP and salesforce.com work together to help customers tackle these exciting challenges.

By jointly developing and using each other’s technology, the Salesforce Superpod will deliver the highest standard in performance, reliability and management. HP intends to be the first customer of the Salesforce Superpod.

The new product will be available for an additional fee to Salesforce’s enterprise customers, but it hasn’t revealed what that price will be.

Both Whitman and Benioff will be attending the Dreamforce conference this week and better address this partnership on stage on Tuesday.

Today’s partnership is Salesforce’s second major announcement as the company holds its annual customer conference in San Francisco. Earlier, it unveiled its Salesforce1 platform that merges social, mobile, and cloud computing technology into one to help developers and its customer companies to build better relationships with customers.
