Vimeo is updating its premium-tier service in a way that it claims will put “more power in the hands of creative professionals and businesses.” Starting today, Vimeo PRO subscribers will get up to 1 terabyte of storage a year, unlimited HD plays, better support, and the latest Vimeo on Demand features to help sell and rent videos — all for the same price of $199 per year.
Company president Dae Mellencamp says that the refresh came about because creative professionals and small businesses requested “an easy-to-use platform that’s straightforward and affordable, but which doesn’t sacrifice quality.”
One of the first features subscribers will notice is the increased storage capacity. Previously limited to 50 gigabytes of storage, now it’s been multiplied by a factor of 20 to 1 terabyte. In addition, Vimeo PRO offers unlimited playbacks wherever a user’s video appears (on Vimeo.com, embedded on other sites, and on connected TVs and mobile devices) — a significant change from its past limit of 250,000 plays.
Customer support has also been improved as well with subscribers receiving email responses to troubleshooting issues within 1 hour on business days and within 1 day on weekends, Eastern Time.
Lastly, Vimeo PRO members will have access to the company’s direct-distribution platform, Vimeo On Demand. This is pretty significant because it gives creators the ability to rent their movies and price it how they want, along with better analytics.
Existing members get to keep many of the same features, including commercial-free HD playback, the ability to customize and personalize the video player, advanced performance statistics, FTP uploading, social media sharing, and enhanced privacy settings. In addition, all content uploaded will still be compatible with playback on desktops, mobile phones, tablets, and connected TVs.
