Social media planner Buffer passes 1 million registered users, as it approaches its 3rd birthday

Buffer, the service that helps you plan and spread updates to social networks, has hit a notable landmark as it passed 1 million registered users this month.

With that milestone, Buffer is also revealing a few more details about the growth of its business: namely that its run rate is now at $2 million in revenue per year. That’s up from $1 million in January of this year, though there’s no word on its profit numbers.

That income comes from 16,204 paying customer across the Buffer Awesome and Buffer for Business ‘pro’ plans. The company says it has 150,000 active users, as of September, and that the service has been used to post 85 million updates to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+ to date — though support for the latter two are very recent additions.

A post on the Buffer blog documents just how far the company has come since being founded in Joel Gascoigne’s bedroom in Birmingham, England, in November 2010.

Buffer raised an angel round of $450,000 in December 2011, from a whopping 18 different investors, after participating in the San Francisco-based AngelPad accelerator. Today, it has 13 staff who are spread across Europe, Asia-Pacific and its headquarters in the US.
