Nokia’s new in-car HERE Auto mapping tools offer real-time traffic updates, turn-by-turn directions and more

Nokia’s new in-car HERE Auto mapping tools offer real-time traffic updates, turn-by-turn directions and more

Following Spotify, Pandora, Google and a whole host of other technology firms, Nokia is reaffirming its presence in the automotive space today with an updated suite of connected driving tools for car manufacturers and in-vehicle technology suppliers.

HERE Auto gives drivers turn-by-turn directions across 95 different countries, as well as 2D, 3D and satellite map views that feature street level photography. Reminiscent of Google-owned community mapping service Waze, the platform also includes real-time traffic updates on the road through HERE Auto Cloud, flagging congested areas and road closures.

The platform is being tied together by HERE Auto Companion, a separate mobile and Web app that drivers can use outside of the vehicle to store commonly used routes and places. This is then stored and analyzed to give users recommendations on parking spots, fuel stations and other points of interest while out on the road.

Here Auto is already integrated with Continental’s ‘Open Infotainment Platform’ and Nokia plans to bring it to market with additional partners over the coming months.
