Remember Bitcoin? The currency has fallen from the public eye in the past month, following sharp gyrations in value that saw its dollar-price fall below $100 per; the currency is currently valued at $128.34 per coin.
Among its fans and believers, the good ship Bitcoin sails on. To that end, folks over at Reddit have experimented and created a new way to tip Bitcoin to other users of the social website. Reddit recently introduced a system by which users can ‚Äėmention‚Äô other users; that capability opened the door for users of /r/Bitcoin to create a bot that allows for tipping.
The tipping service is now open to all Reddit subreddits, and all users, making it a site-wide experience. Details on how to get yourself up and running can be found here. In practice, the tipping is quite simple:
To tip the parent comment/post one dollar:
To tip user Bob .5 BTC:
+/u/bitcointip @Bob .5 BTC
It‚Äôs a simple, neat method to reward other users for behaving in a way that you approve of. The obvious analog to this new ‚Äď albeit user-generated ‚Äď capability is Reddit‚Äôs official system by which users can give each other ‚ÄėGold,‚Äô the service‚Äôs premium user experience that costs a few dollars.
Among Bitcoin‚Äôs fans, I expect this feature to pick up traction. However, those same Bitcoiners see more than an intra-use for the tool. As Reddit user¬†j2510¬†said: ‚ÄúThis is huge. This will do wonders to raise awareness and curiosity throughout reddit and the internet community.‚ÄĚ Perhaps. It certainly won‚Äôt hurt.
If you want to dig a bit more deeply, /r/BitcoinTip is the place to go.
