Enterprise HTML5 app platform Gizmox raises $7.5m, gets new CEO and moves to Boston

Gizmox has raised $7.5 million for its HTML5 business application platform to bulk up sales and marketing staff at its new headquarters in Boston, with entrepreneur Eugene Kuznetsov taking the reins as the startup’s new CEO.

Atlas Venture led the funding round, while existing investors, including Citrix, IVC and Consolidated investment Group, also joined in. Two of the firm’s partners, Jeff Fagnan and Christopher Lynch, will take seats on the Gizmox board.

Gizmox has built two tools, Visual WebGUI and InstantCloudMove, to bridge Microsoft’s .NET framework with HTML5 to help businesses create cross-platform applications. The company touts its offering as providing “native-quality user interfaces” alongside enterprise-grade security and functionality.

Atlas Venture’s Fagnan endorsed Gizmox as a company leading the “enormous platform shift” away from business applications built on Microsoft’s client-server model onto the cloud and mobile.

“Gizmox has a unique solution informed by years of technology development and many successful customer deployments, to facilitate this shift,” said Jeff Fagnan, Partner, Atlas Venture.

Kuznetsov is stepping up as CEO to help Gizmox “accelerate its sales and marketing efforts.” He previously founded service-oriented architecture firm DataPower, which was acquired by IBM, and online privacy startup Abine. Atlas Venture was an investor in both of Kuznetsov’s companies.

Gizmox has raised $18 million to date. Previously, the company was based out of Tel Aviv, Israel.
