Amazon brings its Cloud Player to cars via Ford’s SYNC AppLink

Ensuring that its customers can enjoy their music wherever they go, Amazon announced today that it has teamed up with Ford to integrate its Cloud Player service into the US car giant’s new and upcoming vehicles.

Integrating Cloud Player with Ford’s SYNC AppLink inside its expanding range of connected cars, Amazon will allow Android smartphone users to listen to their music libraries using voice commands or in-car audio controls.

Although Amazon doesn’t state that it’s available for iPhone in its press release, Ford lists Cloud Player for iOS as a compatible app on its website.

It’s not a small launch either, with Ford Applink-equipped vehicles including the 2013 Ford Fiesta, Mustang, Focus, E-Series, C-MAX Hybrid, Expedition, Fusion, F-150 and Super Duty models.

Ford car owners already enjoy a large selection of music apps via SYNC AppLink, with MOG, Slacker, Pandora and Rhapsody already available via the service.

Amazon Cloud Player is already available on smartphones, tablets, connected set-top boxes and connected TVs, today’s announcement sees it move outside the home and into the world of connected cars. Just as Apple is looking to partner with major car makers to integrate Siri Eyes Free, Amazon doesn’t want to miss out.
