Update at foot of post.
Here’s some good news for inter-planetary meat eaters. Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has clarified his position – omnivores will be allowed onto the Mars colony he is planning.
F**k it, we'll do it live!
Our biggest ever edition of TNW Conference is fast approaching! Join 10,000 tech leaders this May in Amsterdam.
“Recent articles in the press have said that I think Mars is for veggies only. Not so! Am in favor of freedom of diet,” he said on Twitter.
The confusion comes from an earlier report that said Musk would only allow vegetarians onto the Mars settlement. He hopes to establish a colony for 80,000 space pioneers to live on the red planet.
In all seriousness, he does have high hopes for a Mars colony. If anyone can do it, it’s Musk. His SpaceX startup recently became the first private company to fly a resupply mission for the International Space Station. As of last May, SpaceX had $4 billion worth of launches lined up.
He said last year that he hopes families will be able to travel to the planet by 2025 for less than $500,000. If you’re paying half a million dollars to get there, you better damn well be able to eat what you please.
UPDATE: Musk has now created more confusion by deleting his tweet (although he’s kept the one about kale). What is it Elon? Can we eat meat on Mars or not?
