Spain’s ArtTroop raises $415k to build out its P2P art marketplace

Spain-based art marketplace startup ArtTroop has announced €320,000 ($415,000) in fresh funding to improve its platform and scale internationally.

The Spanish language service, which ArtTroop says is used as widely as the US, Poland and Latin America, allows artists to list their works – from sculptures to digital art – at prices ranging from €10 to €25,000. The company was founded in October 2011 and currently boasts 400 sellers.

Although artists have plenty of options when it comes to selling their works online – from eBay to Etsy – ArtTroop’s approach is akin to ‘Pinterest with a Buy button’. Aside from buying and selling art, users can vote for their favorite works and comment on individual pieces. The startup currently offers the service completely free of charge.

The fresh funding includes €100,000 from the BBooster Seed Capital Fund, and Caixa Capital Risc, €85,000 from private investors, plus€135,000 from the Valencian Institute of Finances (IVF) as part of an agreement with the Business Booster accelerator, which ArtTroop took part in.
