Can Instagram analytics be a business? Teleportd lands $1m to give it a shot with Nitrogram

Seedcamp-accelerated startup Teleportd has raised $1 million in seed funding from investment firms Betaworks and Connect Ventures, with angel investors like Seatwave.com CEO Joe Cohen and TransferWise CEO Taavet Hinrikus also chipping in for the round.

Teleportd, which was initially established as a real-time photo search engine provider, aims to turn its in-house developed Instagram analytics platform Nitrogram into its core business.

Nitrogram is billed as a ‘marketing and social engagement platform’ for professionals that is currently focused on Instagram (hence the name of the product). It was initially built as an internal project to better tailor Teleportd’s real-time photo categorisation tech to brands’ needs.

Teleportd co-founder Gabriel Hubert tells me that the startup’s mission is basically to help people make “best use of social photos” and the “fundamentally new kind of earned media they represent”.

Brands, he argues, are in need of in-depth analytics, and focusing on the popular (Facebook-owned) Instagram service allows the company to serve up really deep engagement and other statistics.

With Nitrogram, brands can also easily embed curated Instagram photo galleries in their websites (live example) and Facebook pages (live example).

Hubert didn’t want to give away the big brand names currently using Nitrogram, but said the team is currently in talks with leading sportwear manufacturers and fashion brands from all over the globe.
