Symantec acquires mobile app management solutions firm Nukona

Security and storage solutions firm Symantec this morning announced that it has agreed to buy Nukona, a privately-held company based in California that specializes in enterprise-grade mobile application management products.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Notably, the deal follows in the footsteps of Symantec’s acquisition of mobile device management company Odyssey Software earlier this month.

Nukona brings to Symantec a cross-platform mobile application protection solution that aids IT organizations in the protection of corporate data and iOS, Android and HTML5 apps across both corporate-owned and personal smartphones and tablets.

Nukona also enables companies to set up their own, branded enterprise app stores.

Symantec says the deal will enable it to help its enterprise customer securely distribute and manage mobile apps and content, and address corporate data security concerns around data loss prevention, encryption and authentication on a per-application basis, for both “bring-your-own-device” and corporate-owned consumer electronics.

The transaction is expected to close in April 2012.
