Smartphones continue to grow at a fast pace in India. That’s according to the latest report from IDC, which says shipments in Q2 2014 grew 84 percent year-on-year and an impressive 11 percent quarter-on-quarter.

Yet, despite those figures, there is plenty of scope for further development. IDC says feature phones accounted for a dominant 71 percent of all shipments in the last quarter, which echoes recent findings from Counterpoint Research. Like Counterpoint, IDC found that local player Micromax topped the list for smartphones and feature phones combined, but Samsung lead on smartphones.

Going forward, IDC says the sub-$200 segment will be increasingly important as it caters to the many consumers with limited disposable income, and those buying smartphones for the first time.
