Xiaomi will launch its first smartphone in India, the $230 Mi 3, on July 22 through Flipkart

Xiaomi will launch its flagship Mi 3 smartphone in India on July 22. The Android handset will be sold for Rs 13,999 (roughly $230 USD) exclusively through Flipkart; starting today, customers can register online to buy the device on the day of its release.

India could be a huge market for the Chinese smartphone maker, although competition is already rife with established players such as Samsung, Nokia and local firms Micromax and Karbonn. The Mi 3 is an impressive device through, with a 5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM.

Although the Mi 3 could prove popular in the region, Xiaomi is already readying its highly anticipated successor. Widely believed to be the Mi 4 – the company’s co-founder Lin Bin left little to the imagination with a recent Weibo post – the company is expected to launch the device with a metal chassis next week.
