Google’s new event-finder wants to fix your lame social life

Google’s new event-finder wants to fix your lame social life

Google’s adding a small but useful update to search to help address your fear of missing out. Starting today – on the Google app and mobile web – you can now find nearby events right from Google Search.

Type something like “art events this weekend” and Google will pull in results from sites like Eventrbite and Meetup to show you some options in your area, as well as their date and time. If you want something with more specific timing, you can also tap on one of the date filters atop the search results (today, this weekend, next week, etc).

Once you’ve decided on an event, just click through to buy a ticket from the relevant website.

The company is also clearly trying to address Facebook’s recent dominance in the event space, but without any integrated social features, chances are you’d probably rather just use Facebook to attend events with your friends. Still, it can come in handy if you have no plans for the weekend and want to quickly look for something fun to do.
