Google Photos has been winning fans the last few months by introducing new features like gif editing. But now the app is getting even better with the introduction of video stabilization.
The new feature rolls out in the latest app update. To use it, open a video you’ve already shot, and hit “Stabilize.” You’ll get a slightly trimmed video separate from the original video. It might take a while to stabilize, depending on how long the video is.
The stabilization looks pretty smooth, all things considered. Here you can see it smoothing out a ski journey down a mountain:
Unfortunately, it comes at a cost: you’ll notice some warping in your video which makes it look like reality is breaking. In a video shot by The Verge‘s Chris Welch, the video looks like it pulsates slightly. So it’s a trade-off, but still worth a try.
