Google now lets you see exactly what data your Chome apps and extensions are using

Extensions and apps are probably the most useful part of Google’s Chrome browser, and the company is continuing its efforts to make sure that the features are not abused after it opened them up to let users see exactly what they are up to.

Google has now added an audit feature to the standalone Chrome Apps Developer Tool — that it launched last year — which enables you to see exactly what each extensions is doing with your data.

The company admits that it will probably only be of interest to “power users,” but the new feature is the latest in a series of measures aimed at cleaning up extensions. Google began blocking those not listed in its web store earlier this year, and took action against extensions that forced ads on users.
