The product of a joint project between Google Creative Lab and Google Earth Outreach, Google has lifted the lid on Tour Builder, a tool for recording and sharing stories on maps.

While it seems that Google has actually been experimenting with the service for a few months already, today is seemingly the official unveiling of Tour Builder, to coincide with Veterans Day, though it remains a beta product for the time-being.

To create a tour, you have to install the Google Earth plugin if you haven’t already, then give the project a name, add an introductory photo and a description. You then search the map for where your story begins, drop a marker on that location, and describe each place while embedding other photos and videos.
