Buyers will be able to pick and choose from a range of colors for both the back case and the trim, pick an engraving and even upload an image as a wallpaper, according to the publication’s sources.
Motorola took out a full-page ad in several major US newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, on Wednesday to differentiate the Moto X as the first phone “designed, engineered and assembled in the USA”. The company also touted the device’s customizability as “the first smartphone that you can design yourself”.
Motorola first confirmed plans for the Moto X in late May. The device is expected to arrive in October.
Though Motorola has struggled in the smartphone market as of late, expectations for the Moto X are high because it represents the first such device to have been built by Motorola now that Google has purchased the company.
With the July 4th holiday coming up, Motorola is really playing the patriot card and it’s bound to win points for its efforts. However, designing and manufacturing a phone in the US isn’t going to be enough if the product doesn’t stand on its own, and for that, we’re just going to have to wait and see.
