Watch 5 creatives rework their classic ads for the digital era in Google’s Project Re:Brief documentary

Watch 5 creatives rework their classic ads for the digital era in Google’s Project Re:Brief documentary

Google announced its project to re-imagine online advertising back in March, “an experiment, both to celebrate 18 years of online innovation, and to link advertising’s digital future to its storied past.”

Thus, Project Re: Brief was born, kicking off with four iconic and groundbreaking ad campaigns from the 1960s and ’70s – Alka-Seltzer, Avis, Coca-Cola and Volvo. Google coerced the advertising legends behind these ads out of retirement to rework their original pieces, except now they were armed with the technology of today. It was an interesting experiment for sure.

Today, at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Google premiered the documentary around Project Re: Brief, directed by Doug Pray.

The hour-long flick follows the story of the five art directors and copywriters who made the original ads: Harvey Gabor (Coca-Cola’s Hilltop); Amil Gargano (Volvo’s Drive it like you hate it); Paula Green (Avis’ We try harder); and Howie Cohen & Bob Pasqualina (Alka-Seltzer’s I can’t believe I ate the whole thing).
