Google’s Larry Page has announced that Google+ now has 90 million users globally, doubling the number from three months ago. Page also said that G+ has a 60% ‘daily engagement’ rate. This came as a part of Google’s Q4 and fiscal year 2011 financial reports.
I am super excited about the growth of Android, Gmail, and Google+, which now has 90 million users globally – well over double what I announced just three months ago. By building a meaningful relationship with our users through Google+ we will create amazing experiences across our services.
This number is significantly higher than the 62 million estimated by Ancestry.com founder and ‘unofficial Google+ statistician’ Paul Allen in December. Google reported revenue that was significantly lower than expected for the fourth quarter of this year at $8.13B with an EPS of $9.50, estimates had pegged the search and ad giant’s earnings at around $8.4B.
By comparison, it took Facebook 4.5 years to get to the 100 million mark. Google+ should get there at 8 months. Engagement numbers are good for the network too, as we’ve seen personally here at The Next Web. It’s not clear from Page’s statements whether ‘daily engagement’ was just viewing or a user taking a specific action on the service like +1-ing a post.

It is not at all surprising with Google's popularity, and I'm sure this number will only be increasing, it is just the beginning.

Likedaily engagement can simply mean they were logged into Google account and conducted a search and since they were logged in the search results that generated were "connected" with their Google Plus account, thereby creating activity or "engagement".

LikeGreat to see : ) Been there from early on during the invite only phase and it's been fun to see G+ thrive and continually add new and useful features. I'm sure they'll trip up at some point when Ads come along or something else, but they seem to be avoiding most things that have caused FB rage over the years. While they are using your data behind the scenes to drive advertising etc the user experiences of G+ is fun and engaging in ways that FB just isn't any more. Roll on 100million+

Likemailfetch He also annouces his stuff on his G+ unlike unlike Mark who does not even retain old public posts on his profile for too long and until recently had not posted anything serious for more than 8 months ON HIS OWN SITE....maybe that should tell you a little something about the trust the owners have in each others sites.

These numbers are fantasyland...no one is buying it...80% on a weekly basis - Does he think we're stupid? No major Social Network has that participation...Just give us the true numbers. Oh, they're way below your forecast. Ok, then continue to fudge and lose credibility.
Hardly any active user I know for G+ or any one recommending it..after trying it I find nothing special about it..
I have literally like one person I know who uses google+....because alot of people don't like their name to be at the top of googles list when their name gets searched
So then it's just like Orkut....again.
Seriously, users or sign ups? Big difference when actual monthly active users.
I want someone to do a survey: "If it wasn't widely believed that Google+ was going to be a strong search signal, how many marketers and websites would have cared? Or would it have been another Buzz?"
Already there Matt.Cheers m8.@
I want to do a Facebook Free February. Anything that I would have shared on Facebook I'll put on Google+ and just put a link to that post in my FB timeline. hopefully get people to click thru & see G+. Who's with me? :)
BULL SHIT. They Count Like G+ = Gmail + Google Account Holders.
failed PR spin on the fact that Google's shares are dropping. G+ is a joke. No one wants to be there but have been forced there by Google. Their brand rep people need to speak up and take action.
inactive users
But there is no activity taking place on Google+, even with 90m users. Hardly any pages to like, nobody posting, and still some bugs. I'll stick with it for comm mgr purposes, but a complete waste of time for the moment.
G+ has potential, and I know many people who have signed up but who do NOT use it. I guess I am not alone in that.
Still 790 million users behind Facebook
