Today, the long awaited native iOS app for Gmail was launched by Google.
Some of us were having issues with the app as soon as it opened, and Google has decided to take the app down.
In a tweet, the Gmail team said:
The iOS app we launched today contained a bug with notifications. We have pulled the app to fix the problem. Sorry we messed up.
In a follow-up tweet, “Google Apps Guy” Dave Girouard apologized as well:
While first versions of new apps are primarily meant to capture an install base and focus on stability rather than features, it seems like Google missed the mark this time.
With Apple’s approval process sometimes taking weeks, how long will it be before Gmail for iOS makes its way back to the store? We’ll keep you updated.
“Googla culpa” indeed.

I love the way Google only mention one of the issues. Playing-down failure is pathological. But I know better than to expect openness from this PR-obsessed corporation which spends more on political lobbying than Facebook and Apple combined. (Lobbying is a euphemism for using money to override votes, subverting democracy.)

This is a badly-designed, badly-developed app, with too many bugs and flaws to list.
Google has become a victim of its own historical success -- so overrated that somd people still expect the corporation to impress and thus are readily disappointed.

LikeTim Acheson Ok, calm down, you shouldn't get so annoyed by an app! They released it, recognized it wasn't working, pulled it from the App Store and apologized. I understand you're unhappy about it, but don't judge a whole company which unarguably has some of the best services and apps available for this mistake.
And Google is actually known for launching their stuff in beta and releasing some products that don't catch on and get shut down.

LikeTim Acheson They tweeted about the app withdrawal, kinda limited on characters to give the full blown apology for existing that you seem to want from them.
