Google Apps gets Google’s updated Gmail, Calendar and Google Docs

Google has announced that Google Apps users are getting the new look that is spreading across Google’s consumer products including Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Docs. The changes will be rolling out over the next few months and the updates will mirror changes found in the regular apps. Some of the changes are already here, so if you’re a Google Apps admin, you might want to check them out.

Google Apps administrators can choose to have their Apps users get the new look at close to the same time as consumers, or they can schedule the changes to appear later in order to acclimate users. If you’re and admin that wants to keep track of which updates are rolling out when, you can check the What’s New site to see exactly when the new looks and features will be rolling out for the various Google Apps.

As it stands now, the new Calendar look, Documents list look and Gmail inbox are all available, with changes later in the month to the way that Gmail handles vCards. Google also plans to roll out the ‘call phone’ feature that allows you to call real-world phones right from Gchat, worldwide on August 16th.

Google mentions that you can choose to opt out of the changes if you don’t want your users to have to acclimate right away, but that eventually everyone will be moved to the new look and new features.
