Google Voice Search is a handy mobile feature that allows you to search your phone and the web using just your voice. Today it gets a little more interesting though, Google is personalising the service on Android.

Yes, if you opt in to the feature, Google will begin to learn the specific characteristics of your voice, improving the accuracy of the speech recognition.

Announcing Voice Search personalisation, Google explains: “This speech model enables us to deliver greater recognition accuracy. Although subtle, accuracy improvements begin fairly quickly and will build over time.”

It will be interesting to see if Google plans to expand the use of your voice profile beyond search. Unlock your Chrome notebook with your voice, and your voice alone maybe? This will no doubt make some people even more creeped out by Google than they were before (“OMG, they can recognise my voice“) but we can’t wait to try it.

The new feature can be installed on Android 2.2 devices and above, by updating Voice Search in the Android Market.
