If you happen to be one of the millions of Hotmail users who are having issues since the roll out of the new design, Microsoft has a fix for you: use Google’s Chrome browser.
Honestly, we couldn’t make this up if we tried.
According to The Register, many of the 350 million users of the service are having some nagging issues including disappearing messages and scripting errors on the page. Many are even experiencing a deeper issue of not being able to log in to their Hotmail account at all.
In all fairness, Hotmail seems to work fine via Internet Explorer, but anyone using Safari 3 or Firefox 2 might have some serious problems. While Microsoft continues to “look into” the problem, the Google Chrome suggestion strikes a humorous note: “some customers have indicated that if they use Google Chrome to view their Hotmail account they no longer encounter this problem”.
Are you a Hotmail user? Leave us a comment and let us know if you’re having the same issues.

nope. That is not ironic at all. Time for you to dig out the old dictionary. Well, that or just Google for the definition.
Hotmail sucks. Seriously. The interfaces is disgustingly outdated.
Its layout is just like any mail website or program, use the service before you make stupid comments
Are you a UI expert?
#1 It’s new.
#2 UIs are about balancing Goals. Hotmail does that.
#4 I was testing if you read the numbers.
#5 M$ is eevil!!!!11!!!!111 i use gmmail
#6 Your URL is foxnews.com, what the hell? That’s some of the most biased articles on earth.
M$ is evil use gmail? how 90′s is that comment, googles been the big evil thing for at least 5 years now, M$ being evil so seriously outdated, espeically when you consider googles mass data mining operation.
Mass data mining operation? You mean their search engine? The hilarity that you just criticized a company who’s business it is to provide answers, for collecting the data to answer those questions. You want to criticize data miners, talk to maltego.
What happened to number 3??
answer is at number 4.. Means you read without understand.. Haha..
You obviously haven’t got a hotmail account then – AND you obviously haven’t seen the new update – Stop spreading FUD.
It’s superior to Gmail and Yahoo – can you view video clips and access and edit standard MS Office documents within these webmail services?
“but anyone using Safari 3 or Firefox 2 might have some serious problems”
then upgrade your browser !
this article is stupid.
so, Hotmail works fine with IE, but doesn’t work with a very old version of Firefox ?
and MS wants people using the old, outdated version of Firefox to upgrade to Chrome ?
Sounds fine to me
There are people that still use IE 6… and they think “is not necesary to upgrade”
@whoops: Irony (def. 5 at dictionary.com): an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected.
One might reasonably expect Microsoft to recommend their own browser, Internet Explorer. The outcome of the events discussed here is contrary to that expectation.
I realise irony is misused everywhere, all the time. But try not to be too quick to call people wrong, that will only make the situation worse.
No, a reasonable person would not expect Microsoft to recommend IE. It would only be expected if you’re trying (and failing) to be witty or funny.
First and foremost, it’s a temporary workaround. Software creators recommend all kinds of settings or software trying to troubleshoot issues for users, when they find what works, they fix the issue. Never once have I expected those recommendations to be permanent fixes. Microsoft is not promoting a permanent switch to Chrome. When they fix the issue, it’s expected the vast majority of users will go back to IE or Firefox. “Does it do ____ when you do ____?” is one of the most common things devs will ask when problems are reported, this is no different. No irony there.
Tell users with OS X or Linux to install Internet Explorer? Hah. No irony there.
There have been a few reports of users having issues with IE (if it’s related to this issue is unknown). Do you expect Microsoft to recommend IE? I’d hope not. No irony there.
Internet Explorer can be uninstalled. The people who hate IE enough to bother removing it, instead of leaving it there, aren’t going to be convinced to reinstall it. Recommending a third-party browser that works is what I would expect. No irony there.
A fix is a fix, Chrome is reported to work more often than not and MS recommended it. There’s no irony here at all unless you expect support to withhold useful info because of some “self-promotion” rule that the media creates between software companies.
Even from a non-workaround perspective, if I had to recommend a non-MS browser for Hotmail, it would be Chrome. Hotmail is almost completely javascript-based and Chrome is incredibly fast. If a user is going to experience the new Hotmail with something other than IE, might as well make your product look the best it can.
Did you know that Microsoft makes software for Apple platforms? Hopefully that’s not considered irony.
Oh snap, I just typed that much on the internet. I can’t believe I just wasted that much time.
tl;dr – a fix is a fix, expecting anything less is petty and absurd.
So it wasn’t ironic to you, but irony is all about perspective and expectation. STFU!
do you have them is what im asking
You clearly are neither reasonable nor within the realm of understanding what is normal. You sir are a jackass and an idiot who makes the world dumber simply by existing.
Whoops,
You did it again. You’ve made a complete meme of yourself. You know, the kind that sweeps through the internet but lacks lasting social merit. Or, put in simpler terms. You are a self-centered, argumentative troll. Have you considered taking up another past-time that doesn’t interfere with other people? Go for a walk, Get some air. Then dedicate your life to helping to uplift others.
Peace
Hah! Classic!
lol.. ensign whoops some serious a$$
I do use Hotmail with Chrome and find that it results in Microsoft’s right column banner ads be displayed over the email when the ad refreshes. That didn’t happen until the Hotmail update.
I have a hotmail account that I no longer use, because this is by far the worst email service in the whole galaxy!!!!
I’ve been using gmail for years now and I’m perfectly happy with it.
MS sucks anyway, they are the old dinosaur just before its extinction: it’s big but has so huge a latency that it will die even before it realises it was lethally hit by competition.
I’ve been using Hotmail for years – and i’m extremely happy with it. now that Hotmail have increased functionality in the new update – this is easily the best webmail service out.
Linking other accounts, such as your precious Gmail works, 25Gb of storage, editing MS Office documents with Hotmail, viewing videos within the email, integration with Messenger, Facebook, MySpace… So tell me why Hotmail has the largest number of active accounts in the world? Fact.
Now thats Irony
‘Hello Sega hotline.’
‘Hi my gaming experience SUx0R$!!
‘No problem sir, we recommend you purchase a Super Nintendo.’
Dunno, doesn’t strike me as smart.
Who could possibly even imagine that fall for the MS. Any way Firefox is the one and only king and Hotmail is replaced by Gmail.
Since Hotmail updated to the “new” Hotmail in early July, I have not been able to download attachments to a message, nor to use any feature in the same bar as Attachments (in the compose message window). This is in Firefox 3.
In IE7 I am able to download attachments. And I can download attachments in other mail programs.
I have not changed the version of Firefox since the change in Hotmail, so the problem has to be the “new” Hotmail.
LOL the Imperial boys at Microsoft is getting soft. check out the comic version of it http://bit.ly/b0bgBy
I am tearing my hair out with hotmail and having all kinds of issues using IE8.
Junk set to Exclusive but landing in inbox

When on support forum and they are trying to tell me it is something to do with my computer!
How about the duplication and triplication of messages on custom domain hotmail accounts?
I have trouble opening mail, deleting mail and basically doing anything with hotmail. I get messages like “We cannot connect to Windows hotmail right now. Try again.” I have to try and try again. I have tried it using the latest Firefox, Explorer and have now downloaded Chrome as per this recommendation – NADA! I am now looking to forward my hotmail to another account since trying to contact everyone to tell them I have a new address is overwhelming.
I love Google Chrome and I don’t find it surprising at all that it performs better than Microsoft’s own browser. What I do find surprising is that they would actually admit it.
I use chrome but it doesnt fix hotmails problems. I am tired of repeating such basic steps as deleting mails… I cant select them, I am sure that because of agressive ad on right site I need to click couple times untill message is selected! the same happens when I push button DELETE (one on the top of screen works, but the other on the bottom doesnt and I need to click it repeatedly. EVERY day there is a problem… that “browser cant find hotmail s server.
old hotmail worked, this one is suitable for trash.:-(
Hotmail sucks bad. Safari and firefox just dont work well with hotmail.
Microsoft really doesn’t care either.
