Grab the NES Classic now, because Nintendo just discontinued it

If the infamous NES Classic shortages gave you blue balls, then get ready for a doozy. The retro console that could has officially been discontinued in the US.

The last shipments of the Classic are set to go out later this month. Nintendo of America is encouraging its fans to go out and check availability at their local retailers as soon as possible. went on to say:

We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.

As for why Nintendo are discontinuing such an obviously popular product, an inside source told IGN:

NES Classic Edition wasn’t intended to be an ongoing, long-term product. However, due to high demand, we did add extra shipments to our original plans.

The Switch will eventually have NES games to play thanks to its monthly subscription service, which allows users to play a specific NES or Super Nintendo game for the month.

The good news is that if you have a NES Classic, your prize is about to go up in value. The bad news is that if you don’t, and you’re not already on Craigslist or eBay, you’re about to see a sharp spike in price.

In the meantime, save your money and try an unofficial console with more games like the Nt Mini.

Update 4/18/17: If you held out any hope that it would live up in Europe, you’re in for some bad news. Nintendo of Europe just confirmed it’s being discontinued across the pond as well.
