You can now buy an Amazon Fire Phone in the US

You can now buy an Amazon Fire Phone in the US

As promised, the Amazon Fire Phone is now available in the US. The new, premium handset is available exclusively on AT&T for either $649 (32GB) or $749 (64GB) without a service plan. Cheaper handset prices are on offer, provided you take out an applicable AT&T contract.

The smartphone could be a breakthrough moment for Amazon. While it’s experimented with e-readers and tablets in the past, this is its first attempt at cracking the lucrative smartphone market. How it performs in the US could dictate when and how Amazon releases it elsewhere.

The device comes with a few unique features; four cameras on the front track the position of your face for Dynamic Perspective, by subtly adjusting on-screen graphics and creating the illusion of a 3D display. A software feature called Firefly, meanwhile, uses the camera to recognize everyday objects and give you a shortcut to Amazon’s store and other connected services.

For a limited time, the device also comes with a free 12-month subscription to Amazon Prime and 1,000 Amazon Coins (worth $10 USD) for spending on apps and other digital content. If you live in the US and like the idea of an Amazon-developed smartphone, your moment has finally arrived.
