ps4 520x199 Sonys PlayStation 4 will go on sale in Japan on February 22 2014, three months after the US

Sony is launching the PlayStation 4 in the US on November 15 and Europe on November 29, but Japanese customers will have to wait until February 22 2014. That’s nearly three months later than the American public, as Engadget reports.

That announcement, made today at the SCEJA Press Conference, is sure to be poorly received by console gamers in Japan, despite Sony’s explanation that the wait is necessary to ensure that there is enough Japanese software support for the machine in the country.

When it does arrive, the PlayStation 4 will cost 41,979 yen ($420), or 46,179 yen ($465) for the model that comes with a camera. Sony says there will be a limited edition pack on launch that bundles a series of free games with the console.

The standard version of the PlayStation 4 will be sold for $399 in the US, €399 in Europe and £349 in the UK.
