Hands-on with the Moto X: You won’t lust after it, but it’s a solid smartphone

Hands-on with the Moto X: You won’t lust after it, but it’s a solid smartphone

After holding a series of private press events this morning in New York, Motorola has officially revealed its Moto X. We dove into the specs and launch details of the device here. To make sure we’re all caught up to speed, know that the heavily customizable, US-made device ships with a 4.7-inch screen, 16 to 32 GB of storage, 24 hours of battery, and a 10MP camera. It costs $199.

The new Moto X will be available sometime between the end of August and early September in the US, Canada and Latin America on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular and T-Mobile. Sadly, only AT&T will offer custom colors for now. Considering that this customization feature is key to the device, we’re a bit disappointed.

This post isn’t about specs, though. It’s about pictures. Lots of them. Let’s get to it.

As you can see from the stats above, this is a solid smartphone, but it’s not a shocker either. It doesn’t pack mind-blowing functionality or specs; instead, it ships with convenience-focused features. Our first impression is simple: the Moto X is a nice, safe choice for the average Android phone user.
