Facebook rolls out enhanced Trending feature for Android

Facebook has expanded its new Trending feature, introduced in January, to cover mobile devices. It rolls out today and is available to US Facebook members for the Web and Android.

An iOS version and support in other countries is coming soon, according to a company blog post.

Trending was launched to help people discover hot topics under public online discussion, and it seems only logical for this functionality to be available on-the-go.

Facebook says that the new feature lets you explore material from disparate sources and different perspectives. When you tap on a Trending topic, there is an organized list of discussions from five different angles.

For example, Articles shows you the original coverage from news organizations; In the Story gives you perceptions from actual participants; Friends and Groups gives you the smack talk from your own social network; Near the Scene shows you posts from nearby observers and Live Feed gives you a streaming rendition of the whole scene.

This marks the second time recently that the social network has expanded a once Web-centric feature to mobile. The most recent example was its Graph Search feature.
