Facebook brings publishers new tools for helping get stories in front of users

Facebook today announced a number of new tools for publishers to help them connect to readers on the social network and to understand the impact they’re making.

A new Interest Targeting tool helps target users who have liked a publisher’s page by interest, so when a relevant story goes out, it gets shown to those with some interest in what’s shared.

Another new tool, End Date, allows publishers to give posts an expiration so that they disappear from a page after a certain time has passed. This allows publishers to hide stories that have become stale or are only relevant at a point in time.

A third tool called Smart Publishing uses analytics to identify and publish stories to your page that are popular with people on Facebook. When enabled, links that are frequently shared to your website will appear in the newsfeed of people who like the page, but won’t appear on the page itself.

Smart publishing is only available as a preview for some large publishers right now, according to Facebook.

Finally, Facebook says it’s made a number of improvements to analytics so that pages are able to see which URLs are most popular over time and which posts are performing well.

Facebook has been wooing publishers over the last year by improving page traffic and working closely with teams to help increase the volume of news on the social network. The company also announced improvements to its trending topics today.
