Facebook Paper is now available on the iPhone in the US

Facebook launched a new, standalone iOS app called Paper for fans of the social network in the United States today. Unveiled last week, the app takes the Facebook News Feed in an entirely new direction, focusing on the content itself, readability and design.

Stories are contained within horizontal cards, which you can flip through with a side-ways swipe. Status updates, photos and links are all appear full-screen, with a minimalist layout reminiscent of Flipboard, Feedly and Digg.

It’s uncluttered and different, pulling away from the overwhelming volume of buttons and menus that have crept into the original Facebook mobile apps. The company isn’t pitching Paper as a replacement for these apps – at least not yet – but the possibility is there, given the inclusion of a post editor.

The Facebook Paper app is available now, but only for users in the good old US of A. The company is yet to detail when it will be available internationally – or whether an Android version is in the works – but when we know more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
