Facebook to pay $15 per user in $20M Sponsored Stories class-action settlement

Facebook to pay $15 per user in $20M Sponsored Stories class-action settlement

A US judge has approved Facebook’s settlement of a class-action lawsuit that will pay out $15 to participating users in response to allegations that it violated privacy through its Sponsored Stories feature, Reuters reports.

The lawsuit centered around complaints from users who had their Likes publicized on sponsored stories without receiving compensation or the chance to opt-out.

GigaOm notes that $9 million of the settlement will go to the 614,000 users who signed up for the settlement. The remaining money will cover lawyers, fees and donations to non-profit groups.

Facebook settled the lawsuit last year, but didn’t receive final approval until today.
