Facebook Reportedly Testing Event Check-ins

Facebook Reportedly Testing Event Check-ins

Facebook appears to be encouraging users to check in on Facebook Places via Event pages.

All Facebook reports on a Check In button that appears on Events pages on the day of an event, when users are geographically close enough. We’re assuming that this is only on the mobile version of the Facebook site and we can’t replicate it here. However, Facebook often tests new features on small subsections of users before rolling them out more widely.

If true, this would be a smart way for events organisers to encourage take-up of Places Deals right from the event’s promotions page, increasing the likelihood that those not in the habit of using the Places feature will give it a go. It’s not clear at present whether these check-ins show up as an event itself or are simply a shortcut to checking in at the event venue.

We’ve contacted Facebook for some confirmation of the feature, but it certainly seems like a something that would be popular with events organisers in places where Deals are already available – currently the US and five European countries.
