BlaBlaCar has acquired German startup Carpooling.com and Hungary-based Autohop for an undisclosed sum.
The move creates one of Europe’s largest car sharing networks. The company says it will “integrate the businesses into its existing service to create a unified ridesharing experience…from Amsterdam to Zagreb.
It will now have more than 20 million members in 18 markets, of which, four – Hungrary, Romania, Serbia and Croatia – are new to it.
“In the short term, Carpooling will continue to operate under its current brand, but the longer term vision is to bring the company’s offerings together under the BlaBlaCar brand.
A spokesperson told TNW: “The service will remain on Carpooling.com. The goal is to unify the products and communities so that, in the long term, ridesharers all over Germany will find the most extensive offer on BlaBlaCar.de.”
