Windows Phone climbs to nearly 10% of smartphone sales across Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Spain

According to data from a Kantar Worldpanel ComTech report for the last three months up to August this year, Windows Phone-based devices accounted for 9.2 percent of smartphone sales in Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.

The figure represents the highest ever point for Microsoft’s mobile OS in Europe, and follows a report covering July’s data in which it was accounting for just over 8 percent of handset sales in the same markets. As well as reaching nearly 10 percent across Europe, Windows Phone did manage to break through the double-digit barrier to 10.8 percent and 12 percent for France and Great Britain respectively. According to the report, it also now puts it within one percent of iPhone sales in Germany.

While Windows Phone has been making gains in Europe, it still has some way to go if it wants to be the number one player as Android remains top dog across Europe with a 70.1 percent market share.
