Spotify signed up 300,000 independent labels in 2011, as it reveals the year’s top tracks

It’s been a pretty big year for music-streaming service Spotify, what with its US launch and deep Facebook integration.

Indeed, Spotify launched in five new countries in 2011 – the US, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium, taking its total number of countries to 13.

It also launched a number of major service updates, such as Spotify Apps, whilst Radio mode got a bit of a makeover too. Other fascinating tidbits include it signing up over 300,000 independent music labels – including Sub Pop Records, Merge Records and SC Distribution – and adding approximately 20,000 tracks per day. That said, one distributor representing over 200 labels pulled their entire music catalogue from Spotify and other music streaming services such as Rdio and Simfy.

Furthermore, Spotify welcomed over 1.5m new subscribers, fueled largely by its US launch, taking its total number of paying users to over 2.5 million.

Today, Spotify published its 2011 review, revealing the year’s top 100 most popular tracks by country, as well as playlists from the likes of Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, Willow Smith and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park.

It’s interesting to see what was popular in each country too, with the likes of Foster the People’s Pumped Up Kicks hitting top spot in the US, whilst Adele’s Rolling in the Deep attained pole position in the UK. The latter, actually, was a constant in the top 10 across all the published countries.
