Fairpixels is giving startups a helping hand, and open sourcing rejected logos for anyone to use.
The company, which is a pay-what-you-can-afford design firm, says it has “unused logo design proposals piling up on our hard drives,” so it’s just giving them away, and will be freeing more designs up weekly (every Tuesday).

Last year, Facebook's VP of Design thought the TNW Conference main stage was the best she'd ever been on.
The logos are all free to download, and you get both the finished product (png) and an Illustrator file if you’d like to slap that logo elsewhere. They range from clean and unique all the way to ‘wtf.’ Some of them seem unfinished, though (lines aren’t very clean).
It’s a nice way to give back, but it’s easy to see two startups falling in love with the same design and using it. To that, there’s no clean recourse for who’s got dibs; you either come to an agreement that one party will find another logo, or agree to leave potential clients and customers confused.
But, those bootstrapped startups who just need to get up and running quickly will likely love this idea. Once you get a bit more grounded, though, it’s probably best to spin that free logo into something a bit more personalized.
