Design studio Teehan+Lax releases brilliant Retina iPad GUI template that requires Photoshop 6

Toronto, Canada-based design studio Teehan+Lax has released an updated version of its iPad PSD template for app designers, and it clocks in at an enormous 104.1MB unzipped. That may not sound like a lot in terms of raw megabytes, but it’s huge for a design template that is essentially a sketch of standard UI components used in apps.

The template requires Photoshop 6 to use, which is thankfully still free during its beta trial period. Geoff Teehan explains why they took the time to put this together:

In 2008 we released our first iOS PSD. We continue to do it, not only because we find useful, but because we think a lot of other designers do too. In fact, over the past four years they’ve been downloaded millions of times. It’s become our little thank you to an industry that has given us so much. We’re really proud to be releasing our latest version today. It’s based on iOS 5.1 and includes hundreds of retina assets available natively on the platform. In addition to the GUI assets, you’ll find perfectly scaled ‘New’ iPads to help you create the apps we’ll come to love in the future.

The PSD is available for anyone to download at the studio’s site and should be a great resource for anyone looking to mock up their apps or display them in the ‘new iPad’ templates provided with the PSD.
