Finland’s Digia opens US office to push Qt development in the States

Qt is a development framework used in the creation of a wide range of apps, from Adobe Photoshop Elements to Skype, and by organisations as diverse as the European Space Agency and Disney. Although Qt is produced by Nokia, it outsourced the support and licensing side of the business to Finland’s Digia earlier this year.

Now the Helsinki-based company is aiming to make a big push for the framework in America with the opening of its first US office, in California. The Santa Clara base will not only support existing commercial Qt developers in the Americas but will also see the firm promoting development of Qt outside the mobile space. While used in the advanced visualisation industry; consumer electronics, and industrial automation industries, Digia hopes its expansion will allow it to move into the medical device sector

Digia currently employs more than 200 in-house Qt experts. The company operates in China, Finland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and USA. Digia says that Qt Commercial is used by more than 6,500 active, licensed developers across more than 70 industries.
