Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is making its global ambitions official at the very start of 2014 — it’s making its way to Singapore, its first stop in Southeast Asia, with more countries in this region likely to follow soon after.

Hugo Barra, former Google VP for Android and now vice president for Xiaomi Global, made the announcement in a Google+ update. A Facebook page for Xiaomi Singapore is now live — but details will only be revealed later, which we will update accordingly.

In 2013, Xiaomi took its first foray into the international realm, launching its mobile phones in Hong Kong and Taiwan. This is the first time it is stepping beyond its closest regions and pushing its devices further overseas. Xiaomi co-founder and president Bin Lin told us last year in an interview that Barra would be behind its worldwide push — and the company has indeed delivered by kicking off expansion plans at the start of 2014.
