Good news for folks in Asia seeking an alternative to the iPhone or Samsung’s Galaxy range. LG has announced plans to make its flagship Optimus G Pro smartphone available across the region during June, expanding the device’s presence in Asia beyond its home market of South Korea.
The 5.5-inch phone will go on sale in Hong Kong first, next month, before making its way to a range of other markets including Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Philippine, Vietnam and Malaysia later in June.

There’s no word on pricing for each market, which will come in advance of each local launch, but, in Korea, it was initially priced at 968,000 won, which is just under $900.
Looking much like its predecessor — the Optimus G — the 4G-LTE device sports a larger 5.5-inch full HD IPS display — 1920 x 1080 pixels at 400 ppi – with a 13-megapixel camera on the back and a 2.1-megapixel shooter on the front. The Jelly Bean-powered phone was the first in the industry to run on the 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor from Qualcomm, and it includes 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.
The device launched in the US earlier this year, having first debuted in Korea right after Mobile World Congress in February.
Commenting on the expansion, Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, says:
LG’s Optimus G Pro sets a new benchmark in the over 5-inch display smartphone category which is catching on with consumers everywhere who aren’t interested in owning both a phone and a tablet. Asian customers are leading many of today’s technology trends and we’re confident Optimus G Pro will find a large following in this region.
