This is a bit of nonsense. Entire countries such as India aren’t represented here, which will add a massive English contingent. The fact that the Chinese are the largest group in the world learning English means that even with so many online, the majority of content will be in English.

Yes it’s dominant “number wise”. But consider this, you will still only be seeing mostly Chinese people using it in China but nowhere else, it’s still localized. There is no way all in a sudden that everyone will be knowing how to speak and write Chinese, and I doubt the western countries will really follow suit. Increased Chinese learners? YES. But the new standard? Go dream about it. It’s not like a Chinese influenza?! DUH
And I’m speaking this as a native Chinese speaker.
I appreciate the idea that chinese language is going to take over the internet.

Well, let’s see if the China’s rise continues, because there is a big population with no resources to use Internet. Let’s remember that China is not Pekin everywhere “Because Asia Pacific has much to say about social media..”
Very doubtful – even Chinese (I have lived in China for the last 6 years) disagree – Chinese is extremely difficult to read and right, as well as speak. Also, many Chinese can only speak their local dialect.
English should be the language for the future as far as I can see.
The problem is large population is not enough to rule the internet language. Yes may be a large number of sites are in Chinese but people who are not English or American understands English and that’s why it is far more to go to dominate internet by the Chinese.
