Pakistan’s Ban On Facebook Expands To Youtube And Wikipedia

In a drastic decision yesterday, Pakistan high Court had issued a block on social network Facebook.

The ban was imposed due to a Facebook group started by an individual that asked for users to submit caricatures of Prophet Muhammad as part of “Draw Muhammad Day” In a developing story, news is that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has asked Internet Service Providers to block Youtube and Wikipedia as well.

According to a PTA official, the ban expanded to YouTube because some caricatures from Facebook were uploaded to Youtube. Twitter users have mentioned that Wikipedia and Flickr are on the blacklist too. BBC has confirmed that some Wikipedia pages are indeed being blocked.

The decision to ban these websites has divided the Pakistan on the street and those on the Internet. Facebook for its part has said that they weren’t warned about this block.
