Google is fixing Chrome’s slow, battery-hogging video playback on Android

Google is rolling out Chrome version 52 on Android with a much-needed fix: improved video playback.

It may not sound like much, but given that video consumption on mobile devices is steadily on the rise, browsers need all the help they can get. To that end, Google promises that Chrome will now load videos faster, play them more smoothly and consume less battery power.

In addition, the browser’s Data Saver feature now works with video, so you can save on carrier charges with this feature that loads lightweight (but also lower quality) versions of clips on webpages.

The latest version should soon be available via Google Play, so you’ll want to update Chrome once it’s out to see the benefits from these fixes.
