Slack overhauls user profiles, adds unlimited customization

This week Slack’s been on a roll and released a number of new features, but it also quietly overhauled user profiles on Halloween.

The new user profile options in Slack allow you to create custom profiles for your team so that extra details show up for your users.

Custom profiles allows you to add any field, so you can require your users to enter in extra details like their Twitter username or who their manager is. Only team owners and administrators can define a custom field, but they apply for your entire team.

Slack also made two other tiny tweaks you might notice — now you don’t need to leave the desktop app to edit your profile, and people’s pictures are a whole lot larger when you click on usernames.

The feature is a no-brainer, since before today you could only enter Skype usernames and phone numbers. Now you can allow team members to add further information, like their Twitter account or Facebook URL.

To check out the new feature, just click on your username then ‘Edit your profile.’
