Minecraft for Windows 10 now lets you play with (or against) mobile users

Microsoft is rolling out updates for Minecraft on Windows 10 and the ‘Pocket Edition’ that bring support for cross-platform local network play and a host of new features for mobile players.

Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta now supports up to five players playing across Xbox Live, while mobile Pocket Edition players players get revamped touch controls, the ability to sneak and sprint and some snazzy new weather effects, like snow piling up and directional rain. How did you manage to play the game this long without directional rain?

Microsoft says there are “plenty of new goodies to build and potions to brew” and that you’ll now come across golems and ocelots.

While cross-platform support restricted to local play doesn’t sound ideal, it’ll make it a lot easier for households with multiple children to get online and building together without all needing to have the same hardware.
