Minecraft: Story Mode trailer from Telltale is the Lego Movie meets Wreck-It Ralph

There’s a new Minecraft game incoming and it’s just got its first preview at Minecon in London.

Minecraft: Story Mode‘ is an adventure game, by Telltale Games, home of the classic ‘Monkey Island’ as well as ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Walking Dead’ tie-ins.

Like those titles, Story Mode will play out across a series of episodic releases that will take you to various parts of the Minecraft world including the Nether, the Farlands and the End. And, again, as with those games, the choices you make will affect how the narrative plays out.

The plot as described by Telltale and shown in the trailer involves Jesse (voiced by Patton Oswalt) and his group of friends trying to emulate a legendary group of warriors (the Order of the Stone) who slayed an Ender Dragon.

Jesse and his companions discover will something is terribly wrong and have to set out to find the Order and save the world.

Featuring a group of characters who seem to know they’re in a game and an ordinary protagonist who must become extraordinary, it feels like Telltale has melded the best parts of ‘Wreck-It Ralph‘ and ‘The Lego Movie‘ with the Minecraft mythology.

It’s a fairly significant change from the main Minecraft game but it looks really fun. I suspect it’ll appeal to kids of all ages when its released for PC, Mac, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS and Android.

Currently the release date is a tantalising “soon.”
