Microsoft is rolling out Office 365 Video, a new service that lets companies upload and share video content with their entire organizations on desktops and mobile devices.
Whether you need to internally share an orientation video, a training program, a marketing tutorial or a notification from human resources, Office 365 Video aims to make it easier than sharing bulky files over your intranet.
It’s kind of like YouTube for companies. The new service lets administrators create channels for various categories of videos and upload content with metadata so they’re easy to browse in companies’ video portals and in Delve.
Once a video is uploaded, multiple versions with different resolutions are generated so they stream smoothly regardless of the viewer’s connection speed. Office 365 Video also implements an HTML5-based player so content is easily accessible across platforms.
Microsoft has also launched an iPhone app to allow employees to view and record video on the go. The company says apps for other mobile platforms are coming soon.
Video is available to most Office 365 enterprise and Academic plan customers who also have SharePoint Online, and is coming soon to Government plan subscribers.
