Box updates Notes with version history, tables and easier image insertion

Box has rolled out an update designed to make using its Box Notes collaboration and note-taking features a little more convenient.

Now, users can get a full version history for documents created and edited via the plaform. To revert to (or view) an earlier revision, you just need to select the correct version from the right-hand panel; a new copy is saved roughly every five minutes and shows who made each change, Box said.

Somewhat surprisingly for a business-focused tool, the update is also the first time that the company has allowed users to create tables in documents, which should massively expand its usefulness. Users can also edit existing tables in Box for iPhone and iPad, but not create them.

Rounding off the list of notable changes is the streamlined image insertion process, which now gives the option to either insert an image from your desktop (which is then uploaded straight to Box) or directly insert it using a link. The company said its iOS app would soon allow users to directly insert a camera from your photo library too.

Building out its document editing and handling processes is a necessary move for Box if it wants to keep a foot in the enterprise door; rival Dropbox has recently been introducing a range of new features designed to tempt enterprise users.
