If you’re a fan of the NBC-owned Breaking News app for Android, you might like the latest update to hit Google Play.

As with the iPhone incarnation that arrived back in June, Breaking News for Android now serves up proximity alerts, which are basically push notifications for big stories wherever you happen to be at a specific moment. These move with you, rather than remaining static to a pre-set ‘home’ location. You’ll be asked to enable it when you launch the latest version of the app, but it can be disabled again within the Push Notifications menu (‘Big Stories Near Me’).

Moreover, you are now able to follow specific topics on a new Watchlist tab – just tap the little Watchlist icon next to each story, and it’ll be added. It also asks you if you wish to receive push notifications for this story, alerting you to how many there have been recently.

This update also sees a new Android tablet-friendly design introduced to the mix, catering for larger inline photos and videos, infinite scroll, and more.

The new Breaking News app is available to download from Google Play now.
